An Iconic New York Engagement: City Views and Classic Spots:
Top of the Rock, Fifth Avenue, and the New York Public Library
Newly engaged and continuing their adventures in the U.S. together, I had the pleasure of documenting Krissan and Chandra’s chapter as around well-loved landmarks in Midtown Manhattan. We had planned their four-hour session months before their trip, including a mood board and carefully narrowed down outfits based on each location.
We had initially planned to end the session at Top of the Rock during sunset, but a change in scheduling led us to start there bright and early at 8AM instead. Working with me means we can regroup and pivot as needed. Your photoshoot is meant to be enjoyable and memorable, not stressful!
One of the great things about starting early in the morning was that there were less people, especially during the FIFA World Cup. As we were wrapping up at the first location, we passed by many eager tourists wanting to see a view of the city from above.
Observatories are some of the best places to get the most breathtaking views of the Big Apple, followed by rooftop bars and select locations by the river.
Wrapping up our time at Top of the Rock, we heading down Fifth Avenue to head to the library. We adjusted our schedule and cut out a stop to Grand Central to get some candid moments of this lovely couple enjoying a stroll on the city streets and a pit stop to enjoy some street food— much needed fuel after waking up at 4AM following a long flight.
Of course we had to get a few snaps with St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the cast-iron clock that has survived a millennium, and some yellow taxis while en route to the Schwarzman Building.
Krissan changed into a dazzling sequin-covered dress with a scarf and equally sparkly silver Renee Caovilla heels; Chandra changed into a gray suit from his classic black tux.
We chased windows and where pockets of light could be found while not losing the intricate details of the architecture and the overall feel of the library.
The marble walls and floors, the intricate designs on the plaster ceilings, the murals and paintings— we wanted to include the things that made the library so charming.
Keep in mind that there is no flash allowed at this location, so photographing can be limited during months, when days are shorter. That is something that I take into consideration when planning out a session with you! There are some days when the library is open later but it’s a disservice to you have your session when it takes away from a location you’ve carefully chosen.
And a final dress change into something a little less formal and a little more whimsical before taking the last handful of shots.
Some of my absolute favorites from their photo session:
From Rockefeller Center to the iconic sights on Fifth Ave and finally, the NYPL by Bryant Park, I’m so grateful to have photographed their first time in NYC together. Want to see the full gallery or maybe plan a timeline together for your extended engagement session? Let’s chat!
