Getting Married at Planting Fields Arboretum

Planting Fields Arboretum is located on Long Island, New York. It’s a short 30-45 minute trip from NYC, in a town called Oyster Bay.

With over 400 acres to explore, it’s a favorite of locals for photo sessions of all kinds - engagement sessions, family portraits, and even wedding portraits! - attesting to the timeless beauty and charm of nature and architecture.

But… did you know that you can get married here?

For couples who are looking for a more intimate wedding in a beautiful setting, Planting Fields might just be the perfect place for you.

Planting Fields offers many options for your ceremony on its expansive grounds, starting at $2,500 for one hour, up to 60 persons, including vendors. That means your officiant, photographer, any musicians you hire, and other vendors count toward that number. You can increase the number of guests/vendors by up to 40 people for an additional fee.

You can even get photos inside of Coe Hall if you want to take advantage of the beautiful details and furnishings in the mansion. This is limited to 4 people and requires an additional fee for larger groups. Additional information can be found here.

An important point to keep in mind is the time of year. As Planting Fields is a public state park, it is open to the public until 5pm and ceremonies cannot start until then. In the summer months, this isn’t much of an issue but it can be a little trickier in the fall and early spring.

The benefits of having a ceremony in the afternoon is having that beautiful, soft light that make for flattering photos.

To give you an idea, here are some beautiful moments on how J & C planned their intimate wedding day at Planting Fields.

Even with minimal decor, Planting Fields Arboretum is beautiful no matter what time of year, making it difficult for your wedding to be seen as anything other than mesmerizing.

J & C chose the Italian garden for their ceremony with the sounds of the trickling fountain water and handpicked songs from the musician they hired.

Guests rose as C, made her way to her soon-to-be husband. The ceremony showcased smiles and tears of joy as they couple exchanged vows and rings, with blessings from their parents.

We followed with guest portraits with the newlyweds before the sun was completely gone, taking some group photos by the cloister garden and some couple portraits on the west side of Coe Hall.

Reception was held at a restaurant nearby, where they celebrated the night away.

If you love florals and the new blooms Planting Fields has to offer every spring and summer but don’t want to have your ceremony here, you can still take your wedding photos at Planting Fields and have your wedding ceremony and reception elsewhere. Outdoor wedding photography for 90 minutes is $250.
