European Wedding Venues on Long Island

If you’ve already had talks of marriage and were expecting the engagement, you might have a Pinterest board ready with ideas of your dream venues, photographers, and all the details of your wedding day. Choosing a venue or a photographer is where a lot of couples start on their wedding planning journey. Or— perhaps you wanted a destination wedding but grandma can’t travel that far so you’re looking for a venue that is local enough but makes you feel like you’re still in Europe on your wedding day. If castles, chateaus, and formal gardens are everything you’ve dreamed of for your wedding day, here are some ideas for you to consider:

Planting Fields Arboretum

Oyster Bay, NY

Designed by the Olmsted Brothers (the designers of Central Park!), Planting Fields lies on the North Shore, just a short 30-45 minutes from some areas in NYC. The English Tudor architecture of Coe Hall, its sprawling gardens, and greenhouses leave many areas to explore within the arboretum. It’s beautiful no matter the season, there are new blooms every so often in the spring and summer: cherry blossoms abound from early to mid-April, wisteria dotted along the backside of Coe Hall and under the arch trellises in May, rhododendrons in May, roses in June, lavender, carnations, and more in July! After your photo session, you can also opt for an intimate picnic together under one of the many large trees on the 400-acres of the property.

Here are some examples from a beautiful September wedding at Planting Fields, in the Italian Garden.

There are some restrictions with getting married at this location (such as the ceremony starting after the arboretum closes to the public at 5PM). If those restrictions don’t align with your vision, you can still take wedding portraits here at a rate of $250.

Note: Construction is currently in progress for another formal garden: Oudolf Garden, with an expected completion date of Fall 2026.

Mill Neck Manor

Mill Neck, NY

The grand facade as you approach Mill Neck Manor is something special of its own. Another thing about this venue that makes it more special is its community-orientation, with its continued mission to serve the hard of hearing.

Its Tudor Revival-style really brings out dreams of English romance from a Jane Austen or a Charlotte Brontë novel.

Old Westbury Gardens

Old Westbury, NY

Another favorite on Long Island with English architecture: Old Westbury Gardens.

The grounds are expansive with many options: formal gardens, the reflecting pool, the East Lake, the mansion itself, and so much more! The grounds are well-kept and look pristine all-year long thanks to the many teams who oversee each section of the estate. Including OWG as part of your wedding day will make your wedding day feel part of a Bridgerton scene.

While Old Westbury Gardens started hosting weddings as of 2026, there’s also the option of just having wedding portraits done there. You’d need to apply to a photography permit (90 minutes) but it’s more than worth it. It’ll feel like 90 minutes wasn’t nearly enough!

de Seversky Mansion

Old Westbury, NY

Part of the New York Institute of Technology’s campus, de Seversky Mansion offers three different options for weddings: traditional-, European-, and Gatsby-style. As another one of the Gold Coast mansions completed during the Roaring Twenties, the de Seversky Mansion is decorated with intricate details, seen in the wooden panels, carved marble, moldings throughout the venue.

With both indoor and outdoor options and plenty of rooms within and around the mansion, de Seversky is an elegant venue for those who are looking to provide guests with an experience reminiscent of the English countryside.

Coindre Hall

Huntington, NY

A Lessing’s-hosted wedding venue that makes you wonder if you’re still in New York or if you’ve somehow been transported to the south of France. Coindre Hall is another historically-recognized landmark on Long Island, fortunately available for soon-to-be couples. The venue can hold up to 250 guests, perfect for those who want to include extended family and friends.

The Mansion at Glen Cove

Glen Cove, NY

As with most of the mansions on this list, the Mansion at Glen Cove is another Gold Coast beauty. One thing about this location that is a little different is that they offer onsite accommodation, making it easier for you and your guests to have a rehearsal dinner the day before the wedding, or have a more relaxed brunch after the big day and sending everyone off after an eventful weekend.

Hempstead House

Sands Point, NY

Yes, this beautiful castle is also on Long Island; another gem for a fairytale backdrop inspired by English architecture.

In the photo is Hempstead House, one of many previous homes on the Guggenheim Estate on the Gold Coast of Long Island. From the stunning windows and soft lighting peeking into the halls indoors or the grounds outdoor, there’s a pleasant surprise at every turn.

While it is special on its own, it may need a lot of extra items (e.g., florals, rentals) to really make it shine with how expansive the venue is.

Fortunately, Hempstead House is another location where you can opt to take wedding portraits and/or family formals by securing a permit instead of booking the venue. They have options to make use of just outdoors for 90 minutes ($350) or both outdoors and indoors for up to 3 hours total at $450 (up to 2 hours indoors and 1 hour outdoors).

Vanderbilt Museum

Centerport, NY

While English architecture if well-loved and appreciated, Vanderbilt Museum/Mansion provides a different feel, with brick-colored tiled roofs and a cobblestone-covered courtyard exuding Spanish Colonial influence. Overlooking the water, it’s almost hard to believe this place also exists in New York.

The views are unbeatable at sunset, where you can view lavender skies with boats dotting the horizon.

Bourne Mansion

Brecknock Hall

Greenport, NY

A little farther out east, on the North Fork of Long Island is another historic gem: Brecknock Hall.

Whether you decide to have your entire wedding here, from ceremony to reception, or just part of your day, Brecknock Hall’s expansive grounds provide a variety of backdrops for you and your guests: beautiful stone architecture, a blankets of greenery, and even a small pond with interesting sculptures behind the hall itself. There’s plenty of space to set up a tent for your reception and a sprawling lawn for cocktail hour for you and your guests to enjoy.

Oheka Castle

Huntington, NY

Last and certainly not least, Oheka castle is inspired by French chateaus. Named after Otto Herman Kahn — perhaps better known as the “Monopoly Guy” — Oheka castle was built during World War I and is well-known on the Long Island Gold Coast. With its beautiful grounds restored by the the current owner (and resident), Gary Melius, it’s no surprise that Oheka Castle has been chosen by celebrities, athletes, and other influential figures for their wedding as well!

With a variety of rooms to choose from, you’re able to host an intimate wedding under 100 guests to a lavish one with hundreds. They are also a hotel, so it makes it easier to have a multi-day celebration without leaving the venue.
